From reading recaps on the Internetz, it sounds like most people had a great Thanksgiving holiday! Mine was a bit extended. It was hundreds of dollars cheaper to fly back to Vermont on Monday instead of Sunday, so after a healthy breakfast with mom and dad – homemade bread with a fried egg and a delicious winter fruit salad – I bid adieu to the cut-down corn fields. (Which I’ll be seeing again in a few weeks for Christmas.)

NOTE: Mom also packed me lunch. Leftover lasagna, oranges, and apples. LOVE HER!

I flew from Columbus to Newark, then up to Burlington. A friend watched Merlin for the week, but he was still hungry and happy to see me when I got home.

I had enough time to grab a snack, then make it to my strength class on campus. I didn’t exercise all week, save for a YouTube yoga class, so I was excited to get my sweat on. We did some stretching, then hit the weights. I rarely post our workouts because it’s things I would never do on my own, and even when I type it out, my eyes glaze over. But here was tonight’s workout!

  • Warm-up.
  • 5 sets of 5 reps of barbell squats (I did 70 lbs…I think?)
  • 5 sets of 5 reps of overhead press (I did 40-50 lbs.)
  • A ladder (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,….) of goblin squats – I used a 20 lb kettlebell – followed by push-ups for 12 minutes straight. I made it up to 15 reps but SO MANY PUSH-UPS. Argh!

I had zero food at home, so I went to the grocery store afterwards. I bought things to make vegetable soup, chicken fajitas, and smoothies this week. However, by the time that I got home, I was so hungry that I just made a spinach/pepperoni pizza on a tortilla shell for dinner. Ha! Tomorrow I’ll cook.

Right now, I’m sipping a glass of wine while watching Into The Blue. It’s a 2005 movie about a group of divers who find treasure in a sunken airplane.  Paul Walker. R.I.P. He was so beautiful….

And this movie combined with my love of watching HGTV’s House Hunters International every night at my parents place – most of which featured warm and exotic locations this past week – reminds me that I need to get re-certified in scuba diving this summer.

Anyway! Back soon with Thanksgiving pictures from my fun week in the Midwest: everything from adorable barn cats to the best chocolate cake.

  1. I love House Hunters International and it is so sad about Paul Walker.

    • Sarah says:

House Hunters International is SO GOOD. And all last week it featured warm, gorgeous places like Hawaii, South Africa, Panama, Costa Rica, etc. Sign me up for a beach vacation.

(Tragic news about Paul Walker. He was my friend Jen’s celebrity crush. Just beautiful.)

I like the quick pizza! I’ve been making tons of omelets when I’m hangry and get home late.
