I went to college about five miles from home, and I used to get jealous of people who lived far away. It seemed infinitely more exciting to catch a flight than to get in a brown Camry and drive a few minutes down the road UNTIL I moved to Vermont, which is too far for a weekend drive and has too few cheap direct flights to southwest Ohio. It is a particular pain in the a** over the holidays because it also becomes $$$$$.
The past few years I’ve opted just to come home for Christmas, but I’ve been abroad the past year and my great aunt and uncle who host Thanksgiving at their farm (which I’m now asking why aren’t we still farmers, mom?!?!?) are in their 90s now and my sister had a baby….
I broke down and bought a ticket for Thanksgiving tonight. So I’m thrilled I’ll be in the heartland for Turkey day, but now my question: has anyone ever flown with a cat? I’m tempted to just bring Merlin along for all this upcoming holiday travel.
(Pictures from home this August: Baby Amelia is delicious. Fresh cherry tomatoes for a $1.00….that would NEVER happen in Burlington. My sister Kim has the best braid. Schuler’s doughnuts are OUT OF THIS WORLD. Japanese wigs make the best gifts. My cousins have the coolest cats. Dorothy Lane Market truly makes Killer Brownies.)
