Before vacation, I had a little Christmas party at school with my English Club. I made a batch of my favorite sugar cookies, adding just a 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract to the original recipe, and cut them out with some random cookie cutters (aliens? dolls?) that I found in my apartment. I ended up just using a glass for the round shapes.
Since powdered sugar is a rare commodity in Japan, I made a cream cheese icing because it calls for less powdered sugar than other icing. The dyes over here are powder dyes and INTENSE. Holy wow, you only need a tiny amount.
It was the students VERY FIRST TIME decorating cookies. It was, well, pretty darn cute. They made some unique cookies, everything from Mt. Fuji to Doraemon.
And the English Club – all girls – voted on the GLEE Christmas episode instead of Home Alone. They were glued to the screen, especially fascinated by the cheerleaders.
We finished up with a gift exchange. I got a mini-Christmas tree! I had no time to put it up because after the party I left for Tokyo, hung out there for the weekend, then flew to Malaysia. Be back with vacation photos!

Looks like your students had a lot of fun! I love the Mt. Fuji cookie.
It was a blast. And I loved all of their cookies, especially the Mt. Fuji one.
Loved this post! Looking forward to your vacation pics!
Thank you! Vacation was great. I’m excited to share my pics. Happy New Year!
These Japanese girls are so cute; the shyness, wow. You can just tell even when you don’t out right show their faces that they loved what you were doing.
Oh, yeah. My girls are adorable. Just the cutest, sweetest students. LOVE THEM.
