Slowly. Desk area is coming together, kind of. (Very expensive) Internet will be here on Oct. 4. Yeah….
I guess this is just one small example of how much harder this has been. Whew. I am hoping, HOPING, that things settle in more and I can get into a happier, healthier routine.
A few updates:
By some small miracle, I made it up MT. Fuji and Mt. Tateyama already. Whoop! I just need to hike Hakusan and then I will have climbed three holy mountains.
Cooking has been really difficult. I make a lot of yakisoba. I did try making no bake cookies though! Going to look for more stovetop desserts.
I read John Green’s The Fault In Our Stars (on my phone…ha!). It was heart-breakingly beautiful. I had heard it was good, but SAD, which made me avoid it. (Until I got here and realized that I am already emotional, so I should just give in and read it.) Anyway, don’t avoid it. Just do yourself a great big favor and read it. Not only did it make me crush hard for the way John Green writes, but it also made me want to memorize poems and tell my parents that I love them more and appreciate life for what it is right now. BUT, I finished it last night, a sobbing mess in a way that only Steel Magnolias can render me, and I have two speeches to give at school today. In JAPANESE?! So, be careful when you read it. It’s worth it though. You can choose what books hurt you, right, and this one is worth it.
I am obsessed with Yaz’s Only You song. It’s just been on repeat this weekend as I read that book.
It feels a little weird blogging pictures for years, and then not at all. It is sooooo much easier to update Instagram (dailynibbles) or Facebook (www.facebook.com/sarahreid17) right now. Tons of pictures in both of these places.
Happy holiday weekend for those in the States! Although, sorry to hear about the hurricane….sad.

Sounds like you are settling in and your office area looks delightful!
I read The Fault In Our Stars too!!! It was such a gem. I heard John Green’s basically the new Judy Blume. He’s awesome.
I’ve missed reading your blogs and wondered how it was going. I’ll find you on Facebook. You’ll have writing material for years with this experience.
If you need recipe ideas for Japan (complete with Japanese ingredient lists), you know where to find me–although my blog is online and if you don’t have regular internet…heh. Glad to hear you’re settling in. Hakusan is a good one–just don’t try to do it all in one day! I love Tateyama, too.
Hi!!!! Oh Lrah, once I get real Internet, I will be all over your blog’s recipes.
I’m not cooking much anyway. It’s just been….a hard month. I’m trying to survive right now. Ha!
Plus it’s been freaking hot–I don’t blame you.
Ganbare! The first month really sucks, between the new apartment, new job, new town, new country, and lack of cash. I promise it gets better!
