I think I mentioned this before, but it’s been years since I’ve been to New York City. And actually, the last few times, I was only in Brooklyn. So, it’s been about ten years since I’ve visited Manhattan. Laney was there for work, and she decided to stay for a long weekend, inviting Alison and I to join her. Since I will never turn down a chance to go somewhere, I was game.
I found a good deal on Jet Blue and got into the city Thursday night. I hit traffic coming from the airport into the city on the Super Shuttle, so I was starving by the time I arrived at The Roosevelt, where Laney was staying for work.. (Although, the popcorn chips on the Jet Blue flight were a tasty snack……one of the few airlines that still gives out food. I <3 Jet Blue.)
I took pictures while Alison and Laney engaged in a friendly cab hailing competition. I figured, let the blondes fight it out.
I didn’t get a picture of it, but they have these televisions where you can watch the news in the back of the cab. It’s kind of fun.
We went to The Mercer for a drink before dinner. It’s in SOHO, which was a very neat neighborhood. Lots of boutiques and people out walking their dogs. It felt very chic and urban and neighborhoody all at the same time.
Perhaps my favorite photo from the trip. Laney drinking her Greyhound (grapefruit and Vodka) at The Mercer. She’s wearing the NARS Schiap lipstick. Doesn’t it look good?!
Then we headed nearby to The Dutch for dinner.
More white wine….a theme of the weekend.
We met up with a few others – Aaron, Lisa, and Guenda (Lisa’s cousin from Sicily) – for dinner. Alison and I split the Korean hanger steak with kimchi fried rice and french fries. When I go out to eat I always want french fries with my meal. Can’t help it!
The night ended with lemon poppy seed pie. So, so good. I came back to the hotel tired, totally stuffed and slightly tipsy, which seemed like a nice start to a long weekend in the city.

All of the food just looks so perfect. What a great trip!
You’re making me long for a trip to NYC. It’s been too many years, too. I love that poppy seed pie.

Great post! I love the top picture with the NYC map. It has got me thinking about my love of maps, especially touristy ones *future blog post in the making*.
