A Friday giveaway

nice

I’m going to take a blog break for a few weeks. My camera is still in a repair shop somewhere in Texas, which doesn’t bode well for keeping up a photo blog. I also have a lot of homework due soon.

I did get my Daring Bakers project done in advance, so I’ll post that on Oct. 27.

Otherwise, be back in a few weeks.

For now, a giveaway.

My first!

DRUMROLL.

I’m giving away my FAVORITE T-SHIRT OF ALL-TIME.

(Modeled by my gorgeous friend Laney  - smack in the middle of NOLA’s Jackson Square! – who got her own earlier this year.)

Jackson Square

If that doesn’t seem very exciting to you, let me explain.

This isn’t a normal t-shirt.

It’s the New Duds “Burlington” t-shirt. It comes in a vintage heather gray and shows the sunset over Camels Hump mountain. It’s  made locally, hand screened on a tri-blend eco friendly tee that comes in a variety of sizes for both men and women.

It’s the softest shirt you’ll ever wear. Truly. You’ll never want to take it off. I wear it with blazers to work, sleep in it, travel with it, lounge around the house in it, and  give it to friends.

It’s my favorite item of clothing. Hands down. It also represents my city. Yay Burlington! I’m giving away ONE as an end-of-summer, mid-fall, almost winter Vermont treat!

How to Enter:

Just leave a comment telling me….

a little about yourself.

I’m so interested in you. Where do you live? What are your hobbies? What do you eat for breakfast? What’s your favorite clothing item? Gale or Peeta fan? The list goes on. I think about these things. If you have any blog likes/dislikes/suggestions, I’d love those too.  Just leave a comment. Don’t be shy. (And I don’t think I need to mention that your chances of winning are beyond spectacular.)

I’ll pick a random winner at NOON on Thursday, October 27!

Okay, happy weekend!

*This isn’t a sponsored post. New Duds has never heard of me or my little blog.

Okay. I really, really want this shirt. Terribly.

I grew up in a small town in the second smallest state in the country; you could drive from North to South in two hours. We have no big city to boast, no fame or glamor…and although the quiet can get boring, we often times take the peace for granted. Thankfully we’ve got quite a lengthy shoreline, and since I live about an hour away from the beach I love to drive down there with my friends. (I’m actually heading down tonight to see a sunrise tomorrow morning.)

I have a passion for everything that doesn’t make money; art, music, writing. So as of now I’m a Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management major at my local university. It’s kind of a business major so I can sort of get away with it. We learn how to cook in the satellite kitchen and we study wines of the world.

I don’t have the greatest fashion sense. I’m quite boring; I never really try anything new. I like comfortable sweatpants and Hanes v-necks that come in packs of six, and if I want to dress it up just a tad I’ll throw on a cardigan and a pair of skinny jeans.

I’m crazy, crazy in love with New York City. I visit twice a year, once in the summer and once in the winter.

I’m single, but I’m okay with it. Still young and loving every moment of my youth.

Jesus is the center of my life. He saved my life when I was a sophomore in high school and from then on I’ve been changed.

I have to eat breakfast every morning, and I have to eat the same thing every, single, morning. I fill up a bowl with Apple Cinnamon cheerios and skim milk, and then I heat up some water in a kettle, pour it into a glass bottle, mix some honey in, and then slip a tea bag into it. I can’t function without my breakfast.

What I really mean by all of this is that I really, really would love to have that shirt. Your blog is fabulous and I wouldn’t change a thing…but seriously. That shirt. I want it.

    • Sarah says:

I’m so in love with this reply! I don’t know where to begin.

a.) Living near the shore sounds incredible. We have a big lake, which is fun, but not the same.
b.) Uh, I want to study wines of the world and cook in the satellite kitchen for school. Jealous!
c.) I’m all about comfy clothes. There was a period on this blog that I was doing Kendi’s 30 for 30 clothing challenge and taking pictures of my outfits. I lasted for twenty days. I still cringe thinking of it. Ha!
d.) I’ve been itching to get to NYC. I’ve only been a few times, and that was years ago. That’s great that you make an effort to get there a few times a year.
e.) I’m single. Okay with it too. In fact, it’s nice.

      I could go on….

      Such a great reply.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

  2. Jordan says:

    Oooh! Cute shirt!

I love your blog and I’m a little sad that you won’t be posting for a couple weeks. Your baking posts make me hungry and also inspired, though since I have a new(ish) baby (4 months) I’m not doing much baking these days.

I just finished reading Margaret Atwood’s “The Year of the Flood” which was a disturbing dystopian novel, and although it isn’t YA (I don’t think?) you might enjoy it. There’s a lot that’s Hunger Games-ey about it.

I’ve been making a lot of potato, kale, chicken sausage, and white bean soup lately, tossing in whatever fresh herb I have on hand. It’s great! I used to be pretty vegetarian, but after having Luke, I’ve been immensely craving protein in the form of meat, and eat chicken almost every day. Also, ice cream. I eat a pint every two days. (Yay for breastfeeding!)

    I hope I win. I love cosy t-shirts.

    • Sarah says:

      Hi Jordan!

Are you still in Africa? And I was wondering what the baby’s name was? I love Luke. 4 months. So adorable. I was just hanging out with my friends and their five-month old daughter, Avery. She was so giggly and alert.

I adore book suggestions, so I’ll have to check out “The Year of the Flood.” (The title sounds something like what we’re experiencing in Vermont this year.) I should write about some of the other books i like too……definitely not all YA. I just haven’t had much time to read with work and school. (I’m still trying to finish Lonesome Dove!) YA books are such quick reads that I’m drawn to them more now.

Are you still drooling over Joy the Baker. Gosh, she’s amazing. She just posted a good vegan soup. I keep telling myself that I need to bake a little less. I’m finding my meals to be pretty lackluster at the moment. I’d like to put more energy into healthy dinners.

But….I have a sweet tooth. So, we’ll see how that works out. (I always liked your blog’s focus on cooking from your list of culturally diverse foods. Maybe I’ll try that!)

Oh, you’d love this shirt. It’s super cozy. I actually have two of them and a sweatshirt version. Haha!

      • Jordan says:

Nope, I’m moving to Seattle. We came back from Kenya just before the birth, had Luke (at home! with awesome midwives!) in California, which is where my partner, Nathan’s family is from. We are going to be in Seattle for the next few months/year as we job hunt.

I’d love to know what other books you’re reading; I really enjoyed Hunger Games and “A Homemade Life” (I’m hoping to go to Delancey’s in Seattle soon!) so I imagine you have other great recommendations.

I am SO excited to be moving into a house with a GIGANTIC kitchen- a gas stove with SIX burners! So much countertop space! I’d love to get back to blogging about food, but it’s obviously a LOT harder with a baby. We’re going to do “baby led weaning” so I imagine it could be fun to blog about his meals, too.

I make the tamales from my blog all the time, in large batches. That might be a good place to start on culturally diverse food! I did modify the technique, so if you do make them, watch some youtube videos about how to assemble them. My assembly method was too much work.

      • Sarah says:

Oh my gosh, what a year! You have to start blogging again. Your life sounds it’s full of many wonderful people and adventures.

I’ve never been to Seattle – on my list of places to see sometime in life – so I’m jealous you get to check out Delancey’s! I also thought I read somewhere that they do food workshops? That would be cool.

I’ll have to think back to what are my favorite recent books. I had a busy summer….and with work/grad school…..I just read my YA books for about a half hour before bed. Hahaha!

I’ll have to check out your tamales too. I’ve made tamales, so that would be a very good recipe to start with.

  3. Kristin says:

Oooh I like this shirt- very similar to my favorite shirt (gray, sun, mountains, fir trees)- no kidding!!
I’m a physical therapist and have been reading your blog regularly for quite a while, maybe a year?? I stumbled onto this blog just hunting around for some recipe and kept reading and have been reading pretty much ever since. This blog actually launched my passion for blogs (well…you and the move Julie and Julia). I like that yours is kind of a little bit of everything, some fashion, some FOOD, some baking secrets, lots of great photos, honesty, hiking, travel, running….
And I have to tell you this story. I read one of your Paris posts (I usually read your blog with my morning coffee) and I guess I was really, really into it because that night I had the MOST vivid dream of wandering through Paris, eating, gazing, taking photos. I could speak French (I don’t actually speak any French). The colors were so vivid. I was SO thrilled to be exploring a new city on my own. It was a crazy dream. Crazy awesome! And now I kind of want to visit for myself. :) Paris was never really on my “list” of places I must see, but it’s on the list now.
Anyway, blog breaks are probably a good thing for their writers, so kudos, but your readers will still miss you. :) Enjoy your time away!!!

    • Sarah says:

Gosh, these replies are making my Friday night. Kristin, thank you!

I love the Paris dream story. In some of my dream, I also spoke French. (Too bad it never became a reality…) And it’s so funny. I went for a run after work with a friend who I hadn’t seen in a long time. We were running, and she said that she loved looking at my Paris photos (I had put them up on Facebook). Like you, she said it was this place she hadn’t ever wanted to visit, but now she really wants to go there. I sorted of landed there by coincidence as well. I needed to get my plane ticket to work in London back in the spring. I knew I wanted to do some traveling, and it was cheapest just to get the flight changed to leave from Paris. I could take the train from London to Paris as an easy community. Luckily, everything else fell into place and it was a great trip.

Hope you make it there someday! Have a great weekend.

      P.S. My ex-boyfriend was a physical therapist.

  4. Sara says:

    Hi. My name is Sara.
I have been a teacher for the last eight years, six of which have been spent in Korea, teaching Literature and Yearbook at an international school. While abroad, I met and married my husband, a big tall Canadian, and we had a baby, Lucy, who is awesome (I’m biased).
When I’m not working my arse off, I love to travel, drink wine, take pictures, read books, laugh with my friends, bake, and (only sometimes, let’s be honest) practice yoga. I used to run marathons and now that I’m nine months post-baby, I’m easing back into them – it ain’t pretty but I’m chugging away. We are leaving Korea to move to another country (hopefully Venezuela, fingers crossed!), so I’d like to run the Seoul Marathon before I leave as a final hurrah.
I was born and raised in Oregon and while I miss it I am most at home out in the world.
I ADORE your blog and my husband and friends think I’m odd because I say things like, “Daily Nibbles baked ____. I think I will do it too – we’re basically friends.” To which they respond, “You know she doesn’t know you, right?”
Thanks for creating such a lovely space; your blog is my favorite because it has the perfect mix of everything.
And I don’t mean to be pushy, but, uh, I need that t-shirt. Seriously.
    Thanks for being you!

    • Sarah says:

      Sara,

Gosh, I was giggling reading your comment. It’s so awesome.

I think you have my dream job. You know that? I want to teach abroad! Seriously, I think about it often. I am really bad at learning languages – even though I work on a language program, go figure – so I think I would need to move somewhere to learn the language.

We have such similar interests! (No husband or baby for me yet. I love the name Lucy, by the way.) I only sometimes practice yoga too. Although, I’m trying to get better. And I’m on the fence about trying to do a half or a full marathon in the spring. The full marathons are so hard on the body. Maybe I just need to train smarter?

Anyway, thanks for the lovely comment. Hope you get to do the Seoul Marathon before the next move.

  5. em409 says:

Wow, I’m going to miss you blog posts for a few weeks! I also LOVE that tshirt. I’m a UK reader who found you via freshly pressed…I currently blog at http://www.sowhataboutseaweed.wordpress.com, it’s all about my PhD, art, science, nature & culture. But I’m also setting up a more personal blog (www.gonebountyhunting.wordpress.com) which is in the pipeline and is inspired by blogs like yours, so thank you. I’m also into baking, running (getting there anyway, first marathon coming up in 2012), crafting, knitting, reading, travelling and learning to take better pictures.

Hope work goes well for you and look forwards to seeing you back here soon.

    • Sarah says:

Oh, the UK! I miss it. I worked in London this July. And, glad you like blogging. Your blog is great! It’s a fun creative outlet for sure. And it sounds like we too have similar interests. Although, crafting has sort of fallen by the wayside. Hoping to get back into knitting this winter.

Are you doing the London marathon? It’s in April, right?

      • em409 says:

Yes, the London Marathon in April – I’m actually pretty scared as I’m currently working in Malaysia and it’s really hard to train here. Do you have any online marathon training plans you’d recommend? I saw from some of your London posts you liked Borough Market – good choice, I love it there too.

  6. Ellie says:

I first found your blog in 2010 when I was living and studying in Barcelona, Spain. I was staying with a host family and had very restricted kitchen privileges, of course it was fun eating out and exploring Spanish cuisine, but when you are living somewhere for a long period of time, sometimes you just want to cook what you know, or in my case, cook at all. In an effort to keep hold of my passion for cooking and baking I started reading food blogs. I collected a whole list of recipes I planned on making once I got back to the states. It was sort of fun.

During my time living in Barcelona was when I first started a blog, it documented the places I visited, the people I met, and the food I ate. After returning home I realized I wanted to start my own food/healthy living blog. For a long time I posted to blogs for organizations I was a part of, sharing recipes and writing articles about food justice, but having something with my name on it seemed like a fun project. Your blog was one of my main inspirations. It’s just so real, everything looks delicious, it’s inspiring, and fun. Thank you.

    • Sarah says:

I hear they eat really late in Spain. Right? I feel like that would be a neat food culture to explore!

But, I hear you with being away from the kitchen. When I was working in London, I started to miss cooking even though I was having fun exploring the markets and food in the city.

      • Ellie says:

They do eat late, dinner at midnight is normal! It was tough to get used to at first until I learned the trick of the evening snack. It is a really fun food culture though, everything is so regional. I was lucky enough to travel all over the country, from North to South and the food is very different, yet similar in every region. My aunt lives in Madrid and my parents and I spent a week at the end of my time in Spain with her and her family traveling north to their beach house. We went by car in a VW Van, all 8 of us! It was hilarious. Her husband is a Spaniard, so he took us to all the best secret spots along the way that only a native would know about.

I really enjoy reading about your travels, your pictures from London remind me of how much I loved that city. The markets are fabulous!

  7. Cole says:

I am just a simple Indiana girl currently (still) adjusting to city life in south florida. I love the sunshine, the sand, and my job at a local resort. I miss my family so so much, I miss the four seasons, and I miss the polite common courtesy it seems everyone in the midwest just seems to have.

Hobbies….soccer, running, photography, painting, cooking, baking, music, social media, quilting…

What I eat for breakfast changes daily, sometimes an egg sandwich with hummus, or a smoothie, applesauce, pb and j…whatever I feel like that morning or the night before when I pack my lunch.

Favorite clothing item? My vibrams are on the top of that list along with some comfy tanks I live in.

    That was fun, thanks!

    • Sarah says:

Quilting! My mom loves to quilt. I’d love to get into that hobby, but crafting is taking a backseat to other things right now. I miss it.

(And I’ve never tried hummus on an egg sandwich. That sounds really good….)

  8. That shirt looks sooooo comfy. I could definitely see myself living in it over the next few weeks….that’s basically what happens when I fall in love with an article of clothing. It doesn’t get break.

I’m living in Denver, CO and attending medical school at the moment. I feel like the amount of time I can dedicate to all my hobbies has died ever since starting med school, which is a bit of a bummer. But at the same time, I really love being in school, so it all balances out in the end, I figure. When I do have the time, I love reading, playing piano, running, rock climbing, and getting out into the mountains.

Breakfast for me is usually either oatmeal, yogurt, or eggs. I always go back and forth between savory and sweet breakfasts with my old stand-by being banana oatmeal with nut butter. Lately though, I’ve been digging quiches and egg sandwiches. They tend to hold my stomach over longer than my oatmeal concoctions.

I feel like I haven’t gone shopping in forever, so I don’t really have a favorite article of clothing at the moment. I do love any of the shirts I own that are from Anthropologie as they’re all beautiful with such lovely intricate details. Unique too. I heart anything Anthropologie. I just don’t heart their price tags. Good lord….

And just for the record, I also heart your blog. I like that your blog features so many different topics because honestly, no one thinks solely about food and food alone. I like that you take the time to write about fashion or makeup or your hiking adventures…these topics encompass all of the things that make you “you,” and I find that so refreshing.

    • Sarah says:

      Hi Lindsay!

I’ve noticed that you seem really busy from reading your blog, Anatomy sounded like an intense class!

I hear you about hobbies and other things taking a backseat. I’d like to do more hobbies or train better for races, but I just haven’t had the time. I just had to drop out of my pottery class (that I love), because I’m drained by Thursday night and have other homework to do on the weekend. It’s hard for me to let go of things I like to do or adjust my work/life balance, but I just have to accept that it won’t be like forever!

And you would looooove this t-shirt. It’s so comfy.

P.S. I heart Anthropologie clothes too. There’s a store in Ohio that has these amazing sales in January after the holidays. I can find cute/affordable items when I’m home for the holidays.

  9. Avery says:

I would love to win that cute shirt so I could be rep-ing Burlington here in Uppsala Sweden where I am studying for the year!

    • Sarah says:

Ah, you’re in Sweden for the year! I’m so jealous. I’m fascinated with Scandinavian landscape….. and design….and food….and culture. Your breakfasts are making me want to find a recipe for those Swedish pancakes.

      • Avery says:

I will ask my Swedish corridor mate for a traditional Pannkakor recipe and I will send it to you!

      • Sarah says:

Oh, I would LOVE that. Thank you so much!

(I actually just checked out a Swedish cookie book from the library too. It’s adorable.)

  10. My favorite shirt ever was a shirt that I owned when I was 7 years old. It was off-white with a cheeseburger on the front. What made it awesome was that the “guts” of the burger had a zipper, and you could only see the burger, lettuce, cheese, and tomato when it was unzipped. It was magical. This was in the early 80s, so 7 year-olds were still enamored with zippers because there were no cell phones or violent cartoons, or anything like that. I was just a girl with a cheeseburger shirt.

    I miss that shirt.

Thanks for hosting this giveaway! Burlington is one of my favorite places to visit on vacation.

  11. What a sweet giveaway!! :-) Okay, here are ten facts about me!

    1. I LOVE coconut. If I could eat it every day – I would. Oh wait, I already do! lol

    2. My passion in life is Art History. I am an Art History professor, and it’s my thing. It’s amazing where life leads you. Never where you expected, but you end up loving it,

    3. I am marrying the most amazing, wonderful, sweet man. :-)

    4. My favorite breakfast item to eat is watermelon, oddly enough. Any time I can eat it, I do!

    5. My favorite color is emerald green.

Thank you so much for the chance!!! :-) Take Care!

    lisagoneaussie@gmail.com

    • Sarah says:

This summer I got into eating a lo of watermelon, and like you, I enjoyed it most in the morning for breakfast. Yum!

  12. Melissa says:

    The shirt is totally cute!
I am a new reader of the blog – I think I got linked via the pumpkin latte a while ago but have just started reading.
I am a CA girl who lives in Paris. I’ve been here for three years and find more to love about my adopted city on a regular basis. I was a bit bummed to see that you had been here so recently – it would have been fun to have a coffee and make a real life blog connection.
By day (and training) I am a research scientist studying basic immunology. In my heart I am a chef, a writer, a photographer and a part-time yogi. I am currently trying to dedicate more of my time to putting those things that make me feel balanced (food, music, photography, yoga) as more of a priority – most of my experiments can wait an hour or a day more.
I love oatmeal with dark brown sugar for breakfast, although it took me several months to find those both in Paris. I love the coming winter because of slow cooked stews and big cups of steaming tea, but also loathe it because it is harder to fend of the loneliness of being single when it is cold outside.
More than anything right now, I want to set aside time to blog again and stick with it – I miss it something wicked… Reading fun, beautiful blogs such as yours is inspiring me to do so. Keep up the good work!

    • Kristin says:

Oh yeah, the pumpkin spice latte is the SAME post that hooked me!!! I was trying so hard to remember which recipe it was. :)

      • em409 says:

Yup, it was the pumkin pie latte for me as well… made me miss the changing seasons from here in the tropics :)

  13. Anna says:

-I’m a midwest country girl (seriously, cornfields and woods all the way!) stuck in a yucky midwest town hours from my family because my husband is in law school.
-I have a super-awesome job as a counselor at a juvenile detention center. The stories of craziness never end.
-I have a horse I’ve owned for the past 15 years, she owns every corner of my heart and can make even the worst of days shine, she’s my best friend and definitely the only reason I got through middle school and high school in one piece!
-I had an awesome 14 mile run yesterday…perfect fall weather (60, light breeze, gentle sunshine and neverending smells of autumn)…unfortunately the last few miles I started getting a pain in the side of my mood, and I’m currently icing it, trying not to panic…my next HM is in 3 weeks and I certainly don’t have time to be hurt!!!
-To cope with my fear of injury right now, I’m going to make myself a caramel mocha latte…an espresso machine was definitely the best investment in law school we ever made! :-)

    • Sarah says:

      Hi Anna,

Gosh, I’m loving all your comments! So fun to get to know more about people.

a.) I’m a born and raised midwesterner, from a small town in Ohio. I even went to college in the same hometown, but left a week after graduation. Ha! Of course, now I wish I wasn’t so far away from my family/Ohio. I miss them.
b.) Your job sounds super fascinating.
c.) Um, you have a horse?! That’s my dream. In fact, I had imaginary horses when I was little. Yes, that’s right. They had names too. Maybe someday I’ll get one….
d.) 14 miles is amazing. I went on an 8-mile run with friends yesterday and it was really nice. (Tired me out for the rest of the day though.) I bet if you rest and take care of the injury this week, you’ll be fine. It’s almost taper time right? I have a runner friend who says that during taper, the workouts are just for your mental reasoning, but really you’ve already done all of the work for the race. So, even if you rest until the race, you should be fine!
e.) I love espresso. Sometimes I think about investing in a machine, but for now I just make the stovetop kind. I had two this morning!

      • Anna says:

Where in Ohio are you from? I’m from a small town in Ohio, too! Well…technically…a few miles outside of a village of 500. Halfway between Toledo & Dayton, west of Columbus. There was no college there, ha. I went to Miami University. My husband is from Akron…we have no plans of ever settling there though. Hoping to end up in the Columbus area in the next 5 years, it’s central to both our families!

      • Sarah says:

I grew up in Springfield, Ohio, which is between Dayton and Columbus….very close to Yellow Springs and Urbana, and went to college at Wittenberg. (My cousin went to Miami!) I love Vermont, but it’s pretty far from all of my family members. I just looked up flights for Thanksgiving, and they were like $600. So……I’ll have to nix coming home for both holidays. A lot of friends from college ended up in Columbus. It’s a great city!

      • Anna says:

I have several friends who went to Wittenberg, too. I grew up about 45 minutes north and a little east of Urbana. And Springfield was a biiiig city to me :-)

    • Anna says:

ok, i just noticed I said I got “a pain in the side of my mood”…um…mood = foot. It has definitely affected my mood though, ha.

      • Sarah says:

Oh, I understood. And don’t apologize. I make typos ALL the time. It baffles me. I even reread posts like five times, will hit publish, then find a typo. Drives me nuts!

  14. erraffety says:

I’ve been enjoying your blog, especially jealous of your lovely photos with cute captions. And jealous of the tshirt, too, as I only brought a few clothes with me to China. In an effort to kick my tshirts and jeans fashion fallbacks, I purposefully didn’t bring many tshirts when I moved here (over a year ago now), and I often regret it!! I’m a Ph.D. student in Anthropology, studying foster care in China. I was away for research this weekend, just a few miles out of my home city, and there were star fruit and passion fruit falling from the trees right outside our doors where we stayed…can you believe that? It’s a wonderfully amazing and jarring experience living here in China, but it’s also really nice to be able to hook up my computer and connect to places more familiar. Speaking of familiar, my husband and I will probably be moving back to the states next summer. We love the freedom of being able to think broadly about where we might end up. Perhaps a Burlington tshirt might be a good place to start!!

  15. Laney says:

Okay, so I know I am not in the running for the tee since I already have my own. But I am reading about all of your readers worldwide – I feel like I am friends with a celebrity!

When you make it big, I would like first dibs as your agent.

    Love,
    Laney

    • Sarah says:

Pifft, girl, what you talking about? In case you haven’t noticed, I sort of idolize YOU. I love it when you give me advice. I think you should blog. Just saying!

  16. laurajeanrd says:

I love your blog! I started poking around the blog-world about a year ago, and have not stopped reading yours since! I love hearing about Burlington, as I have been there once… and got engaged there! It is such a great city, I can’t wait to go back. I work in nutrition, like gardening, like running, and really like cooking. My goal this winter is to learn to ski, I absolutely love being outside.

    Take care and keep writing!

You got engaged here?! Where? I’d love to know. Burlington is such a great city…..although, we’ve had so much rain this year. It’s been crazy. I’m also hoping to learn how to ski better, or just embrace winter sports. I grew up in Southern Ohio and there just wasn’t much winter culture.

I love your blog, it is so inspiring! I always feel refreshed about the goodness of life when I read it! You are a great writer :) Great shirt too!!
I’m a Canadian Country Girl. I am an Occupational Therapist and I’m going to school next fall to become a Physiothearpist as well. My hubby and I have goats and we plan to start a small goat dairy. I love to run and I recently joined my husbands Aikido class so that takes up my running time these days. I love to bake and I love to be inspired by your delicious recipes! Thank you!

    • Sarah says:

Thanks Chelsea! Wow, you have so many great career paths, hobbies, and goals. I love the goat dairy idea! I house-sat one summer on a pack goat ranch farm in Wyoming. THAT was a wild experience. Thanks for reading!

I was in the writing class with you at Healthy Living and have been reading your blog ever since. I love it! Yesterday I bought a Madeleines pan and will soon be baking some. My favorite breakfast varies with the seasons from bacon and eggs to fruit and yogurt. I love Vermont and am glad you are here exploring it and writing about it. It is always fascinating to me to hear about familiar places from a new and different perspective. I recommend visiting some of the Vermont wineries in the spring.

    • Sarah says:

Hi Linda! Did you take the second class? I was away this summer and couldn’t do it. I miss you all….and Deborah!

Thanks for the wineries tip. I really haven’t explored many of them, except for the one in Shelburne.

Hi, Sarah! This is so great. And I’ve coveted the New Duds tees for so long. The one you are giving away is at the tope of my must have list. I love that most of your commenters are from far away places. Way to highlight our little corner of the globe! I’ve been reading your blog since you started it. When I moved away for a while, it helped me stay connected to Vermont. Now that I’m back, I like that I occasionally make a cameo!

I always enjoy your breakfast posts as breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I especially love breakfast for dinner! I usually don’t make anything fancy for breakfast in the morning. I stick to Mark Bittman’s granola (http://content.markbittman.com/node/151) recipe, which I love because it is so versatile and isn’t super sweet like store bought granola. But, when I make breakfast for dinner, my standby is the Smitten Kitchen’s Oatmeal Pancakes (http://smittenkitchen.com/2010/05/oatmeal-pancakes/). I adore pancakes for dinner. This fall I vow to perfect the pumpkin pancake. Any tips?

I’m also looking for a great maple cookie recipe. I got a maple leaf cookie cutter this year that I really want to use. Are you up for a cookie baking extravaganza soon?

Thanks for blogging and inspiring me to bake delicious things. I heart daily nibbles!

      Hi Rachel. You’re so sweet.

I’m also trying to find a good pumpkin pancake recipe. I tried making some pumpkin sourdough pancakes when my parents were visiting. Fail!

Yes, let’s bake some maple cookies! Sunday?

I am a Vermonter, born and raised in Rutland, graduated from UVM, now live in Panton. I worked in Burlington from 1995 through 2008, so I really enjoy reading about restaurants you’ve been to and other goings on in Burlington. I would go to Stone Soup for lunch on a regular basis, love their salad bar – tofu is awesome. Also Pacific Rim on St. Paul Street for their Spicy Tofu or Crabcakes. (I just checked their menu online and it’s now totally different.)
I took up running a few years ago, and I live vicariously through your race experiences. I ran in the Maple Run in Middlebury last spring; my mind is optimistic, but the body is not.

My go-to breakfast is either oatmeal with peanut butter or eggs – any style. In fact, I could probably eat eggs for every meal. I have been making a lot of roasted root vegetables lately. (http://www.thecurvycarrot.com/2010/11/29/warm-winter-vegetable-salad/). I might leave out the feta and put an egg in the middle of it instead – like a veggie hash. Yum. Sometimes I bake along with Dorie.

But what I really like best about your blog is how you are embracing your youth and how you share with us what you’ve explored. Whether you’re climbing Camel’s Hump or being a Daring Baker, you’re having fun and that’s what matters.

    Really hope I win. Thanks.
