JULY 21: A trip to the grocery store

Last night we went to my favorite play yet, Much Ado About Nothing at the Wyndham Theatre. It was just incredible. The play was staged as campy, 80′s, and Heathers-like. And Benedict was hilarious! I wish I could take pictures at the play, but tis not allowed.

I’ve been mainly blogging about our day-trips, but I think the ordinary can be just as interesting.

Welcome to Waitrose, the grocery store around the corner from where we are staying.

I’ve noticed that the produce is in smaller amounts and mostly packaged, like even for the pears and apples.

This is what we’ve all been mainly eating: pre-packaged meals, which are almost like Trader Joe’s. They really have an incredibly large variety of pre-made meals over here. It’s nice when you don’t have a well-stocked kitchen and are here for a limited time.

I’ve been eating a lot of this masala dal and bombay potatoes.

It’s just fun to see the different types of food!

A lot of students grab sandwiches to go.

They also adore Orangina. I haven’t tried it yet.

Ah, I found Ben & Jerry’s. It’s ridiculously expensive here.

My favorite yogurt. They flavors are so fun.

Ha, I saw these next to the yogurt. Sound interesting.

I’m like a perpetual five-year-old in that I need to carry snacks with me at all times. I discovered these things – sort of like crackers with dried fruit and cinnamon – when I was studying abroad in the Netherlands a decade ago. Still a favorite! I like the apple and sultana.

The classic English aisle of digestives.

And teas.

And crumpets.

These sounded interesting.

We have brownie bites in the States, but I’ve never heard of flapjack bites.

These look good.

This is the famous French bread. I would have bought some, but that would be like 10 dollars for the loaf. Yikes. Food is extremely expensive for us over here.

I always forget that they don’t refrigerate the eggs over here.

I like the labels on the baking items.

And my favorite are the crisps {chips are fries}. Check out these flavors.

Just a very small section of the very large wine area in the store.

Pimm’s!

After you pay, you get a green chip to put towards the charity of your choice. I try to rotate them.

When my family and I went on a vacation to London several years ago we loved going to Waitrose. It is so much fun to see at all the different products. I could spend hours in a grocery store!

Hahah elderflower yogurt makes me think of Harry Potter…aka the Elder wand!

This looks so much like Trader Joes, but maybe even better?

Dont’ worry, I’m wayyy past 5 years old, but I still eat apple sauce!
