CRAFTING: The Emmeline Apron
A few months ago, I was desperate to learn how to sew. I thought that this simple apron pattern
with this stunning Anna Marie Horner fabric
would be gorgeous.
So simple and pretty that I bought enough fabric to make my mom and sisters aprons too. I was heading home for the holidays and thought my mom could give me an overview of how to make the aprons since I don’t know how to sew or have a sewing machine. My mom is a fantastic sewer, and my grandma was freaking amazing – I figured there was some sewing gene buried in me somewhere.
In retrospect, I was being exceedingly overambitious. I managed to cut all of the fabric out and that was it. It’s a time-consuming task! Due to my lack of sewing knowledge combined with holiday travel madness, mom and I never got to actually sew the apron project. I did drive everyone in the house nuts trying to finish it though:) I forced recruited a helper (aka, my little sister Alli) to help me cut and constantly pestered asked mom what we needed to do to hurry up the project. Ah, happy holidays at home. After several comments to chill, I finally accepted that time was not on our side. [This seems to be the problem with all of my crafting these days. No time. I hate to admit that I still haven't finished the fingerless gloves that I started in, oh say, November. Gah!] I ended up leaving the sewing pattern and fabric with my mom with hope that we would get to the project another time. Sniff.
Mom knew how bummed I was that we didn’t get to sew any of the aprons. She decided to make one apron so that she could show me quickly how to sew one when I come home next time. She just sent it to me this weekend and it is just what I imaged – gorgeous. It’s reversible, and I can’t tell which side I like better.
I am such a messy cook that I am afraid to wear it cooking in the kitchen, but I did put it on to do dishes tonight:) Thanks mom!

What a gorgeous apron! I’m hopeless at sewing too, so mom takes over my projects as well!
what a sweet mom! those look beautiful
xo,Anna Maria
those are wonderful!! I was thinking last night after splattering my favorite pair of pants with olive oil that I really should get an apron!
I’m sure I will think the same thing again the next time haha!
